Area students enjoy free prom event at Schroeder Hall, savor an almost-missed milestone

SCHROEDER, Texas – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students across the country had to miss an important high school tradition, prom. Area students of the Crossroads were able to enjoy a free prom event at Schroeder Hall this week. Schroeder Hall is the second-oldest dance hall in Texas.

Victoria West High School and St. Joseph High School students danced the night away Thursday night, organizers say about 300 students attended the free event, the venue can hold more than 1,000 people so they were within the state health restrictions that have begun to ease.

The students said they were impressed with the decor and happy that they were at a historic Texas venue instead of a hotel.

With a full buffet spread, professional photographer, and DJ, area students were poised to have a fantastic time after months of social distancing.

Friday night’s prom event was for Victoria East High School and Bloomington High School students and Saturday is reserved for students from smaller area towns, like Goliad and Cuero.
