Area H.S. Football Teams Ranked In THSCA Regional Polls

The Texas High School Coaches Association releases its regional football polls for the fifth season. The polls originated in 2014 with the idea of who would be better to rank the top teams in the state than the coaches themselves. The polls have one representative from each district voting on the Top 10 teams in their region.

Five teams have been the regional No. 1 in every THSCA preseason poll (2014-2018). Those schools are Class 6A Katy, Class 4A Argyle, Class 3A Canadian and Class 2A Refugio and Albany. Canadian and Albany have been the unanimous No. 1 three times, while Refugio and Argyle has earned the honor twice and Katy and once.

Here are the area high school football teams ranked in the THSCA preseason polls.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) – The San Francisco 49ers said Monday that they have signed first-round draft pick Mike McGlinchey to a four-year deal.

The 49ers drafted McGlinchey, the consensus top tackle available in the draft, with the ninth overall pick in April.

The 6-foot-8, 315-pound McGlinchey played both tackle positions at Notre Dame before settling in at left tackle as a junior. He was projected to be one of the top left tackles in 2017 but he returned to Notre Dame and improved his stock.

He will most likely play on the right side in the NFL since San Francisco already has six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley, who is the longest-tenured player on the 49ers.
