Area 7-on-7 teams wrap up State Tournament

The State 7-on-7 Tournament wrapped up in College Station on Friday, with a couple local teams vying for the state title.

After going undefeated in pool play on Thursday, Cuero started the championship bracket with a 20-point win over Carthage, 39-19. In the second round, they took down Brownwood, 31-12, to advance to the championship quarterfinals. That put them up against Navasota, but the Gobblers lost, 45-7. Their state-tournament run would end with a 5-1 record.

El campo and Goliad were also at the state tournament. The Ricebirds were in the championship bracket, but in the first round, they lost to Graham, 53-31, who would go on to win the state championship. The Goliad Tigers lost in the first round of the consolation bracket to Liberty, 26-14.
