An aircraft accident on the runway at Laughlin AFB left one pilot dead

Two other pilots are hurt

LAUGHLIN AFB, Texas – A pilot was killed and two pilots are hurt following a mishap involving two T-38C Talon trainer aircraft at Laughlin AFB around 10 a.m. Friday.

One of the pilots who is hurt was taken to Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Del Rio. They were treated and released. The other pilot is in critical condition and was taken by helicopter to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

“Losing teammates in unbelievably painful and it is with a heavy heart I express my sincere condolences,” said Col. Craig Prather, 47th Flying Trianing Wing commander. “Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with our pilots involved in this mishap and their families.”

The names of the pilots are being withheld so the Air Force can notify family members first.

An investigation into what went wrong is ongoing.
