East and West girls basketball may be out of the playoff hunt, but their players are still receiving accolades.

Both the Titans and Warriors had multiple players named to the 5A-27 All-District First Team on Sunday. Athlete of the Week Carrie Barrera-Lacy was named district MVP following a standout senior campaign, while fellow Warrior Kennedy Youngblood was named best offensive player. West’s Aaliyah Castillo earned sixth man honors.

The Warriors’ Ashley Giesalhart and Jozelyn Washington were selected to the 5A-27 First Team, joining Titans Giani and Leilani Wimbish-Gay in representing VISD girls basketball. East’s Renae Mendieta and Zakari Perry were named Second Team district players, joining West’s Taizhae Grant. Rounding out the honors, West had two players receive honorable mentions to go along with five players from East.

Susie Hernandez, Zakari Perry, Hannah Tyler, and both Wimbish-Gay sisters were named to the 5A-27 All-Academic Team.
