Alex Wilkins joined Newscenter 25 in October 2015 as a News and Sports Reporter, but transitioned to a full-time sports role in April 2016. As a native Texan, she loves covering both local and Texas teams as the Sports Reporter/Weekend Sports Anchor.
Alex grew up just outside of Austin in Leander, Texas. As a 12-year-old, staying up late to watch the end of the 2006 Rose Bowl, she knew she had to go to the University of Texas at Austin. While in college, she was a sports intern for KXAN, Austin’s NBC affiliate, and ESPN’s Longhorn Network. She also covered Longhorn sports as an associate producer and anchor for the student television station. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a sports journalism certificate in May 2015.
Her ambition to deliver a great sports story has led to moments like covering the 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, personal interviews with Mack Brown, and road-tripping to experience Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse. She plans to continue adding to that list.
