A Victoria man arrested, charged with murder of Jeremy McAfee
VICTORIA, Texas — Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office held a conference in Halletsville to announce an arrest in a homicide investigation that began in March.
“We were able to solve this, for my baby he was my baby boy of the family, and he will be truly missed,” says Patricia Hartwell, mother of the of 24- year- old victim, Jeremy McAfee. (pictured below)
Officials initially responded to a mobile home fire the morning of March 10 th , after the fire was put out, a body was discovered that was later positively identified as Jeremy McAfee, owner of the home.
“The results of the autopsy determined that McAfee was deceased prior to the fire. Due to the autopsy, Jeremy’s death is being investigated as a homicide,” says Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.
With the assistance of State Fire Marshals and the Texas Rangers, five months into the investigation, an arrest was made.
“I’m here to announce the arrest of Keith Eric Lee, a 27-year old white male from Victoria Texas,” says Sheriff Harmon.
Lee, pictured above, was charged with first degree murder in the death of McAfee with a set bond of one million dollars. He is awaiting indictment, expected to be done within the next 90 days. Officials stated further charges may be filed such as arson and tampering of evidence.
“It’s been hard and long and rough for me. I’m just thankful for you guys for all the work you’ve done to bring this to an end. It’s still a long road, but like I said, thank you,” says Louis Goode, father of Jeremy McAfee.
Family members joined the conference and all expressed gratitude toward officials for brining justice to their loved one.
