A new affordable workforce housing development project is coming to Victoria
A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction
VICTORIA, Texas – City officials gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of the Enchanted Gardens Apartments. It’s a new affordable housing development project coming to Victoria.
Five years ago when the City of Victoria adopted the 2035 comprehensive plan to address the needs of the community, entry-level and moderate incoming housing options were a key goal for the city.
In a partnership with RealTex Development Corporation, Enchanted Gardens Apartments will be Victoria’s first new housing development since 2007 to leverage federal low-cost tax incentives and will create 168 new housing units.
City Manager, Jesús Garza, says this housing project is one of several projects coming to the city.
“For the City of Victoria, focusing on workforce and affordable housing is a priority and so this project is one of several we are working on and so we’re excited that over the course of the next year, we’ll be able to announce and start initiatives. Hopefully, soon we can announce a program to help first-time home buyers and even more projects like these as well,” says Garza.
The construction is expected to wrap up in October of 2022 and housing will be reserved for residents who earn up to 60 percent of Victoria’s median family income.
The location of the site of the Enchanted Gardens Apartment is near 4600 North Ben Jordan Street. Next to Mosswood Apartments. (See attached photo)
