A Man Rescued
DaCosta — Glen Zuck was clearing a fence line and cutting down a tree. He may have cut too low at the base and the tree fell on his lower legs.
Zuck’s fiancee was in the area and heard him call for help. Neighbors came and tried to use a truck with a chain to move the hackberry tree, but there was little they could do. This happened around 9-30 Sunday morning at a farm in DaCosta along the Port Lavaca highway, U-S 87 South. Victoria Firefighters arrived and used the jaws of life to lift the tree and free Zuck. He was taken to the hospital and released with a sprained ankle.
Zuck was trapped for about 40 minutes. Victoria firefighters were able to free him within minutes.
