85 Signed To Play In Southern Texas PGA Championship In Victoria
85 pros have signed up to play in the 50th Southern Texas PGA championship tourney at Victoria Country Club. 25 pros have signed up to play in the special Legends tournament next Monday at The Club At Colony Creek.
David Lundstrom is old enough to play in the Legends tourney, since he is 71 years old.
But, the teaching and touring golf pro at The Club at Colony Creek is going to play in the main event. This after earlier this week, Lundstrom won the Southern Texas PGA Senior series tournament at Silverhorn Golf Club Of Texas. Lundstrom shot 65 in round one, six strokes under his age. He ended up at five under for 36 holes, winning by four shots. David is a four-time Southern Texas PGA championship winner. The winner of this tourney gets an automatic slot into either the Houston Open or Valero Texas Open. By winning this title 13 years ago, David told me that helped him make PGA Tour history. “I bogeyed the 36th hole at the Houston Open and missed the cut on the PGA tour by one stroke, I made the cut at Valero and at the time I was the third oldest guy in the history of the tour to make the cut. Langer and Watson have done it later, but that’s a feather in my cap and I’m very thankful..”
The 50th Southern Texas PGA championship starts with a pro-am Sunday at Victoria Country Club. The tournament starts there next Monday and runs three days,.
PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) – Tiger Woods failed to carry any momentum he had from his last tournament into the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Neither did Sean O’Hair. That was only good news for one of them.
O’Hair missed the cut last week and is No. 121 in the FedEx Cup standings, meaning he had to play well at The Northern Trust or his season is over. He made one eagle, had a good look at another and shot a 5-under 66 to join Jamie Lovemark, Vaughn Taylor and Kevin Tway atop the leaderboard.
Woods, a runner-up at the PGA Championship two weeks ago, didn’t do anything great or anything bad and shot a 71, leaving him in a tie for 60th.
Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka were among those at 67.
