7-On-7 Returning To Victoria, With A Change

East, West, Calhoun, Edna To Play

There will be 7-on-7 area competition in Victoria this summer.
East will host four 7-on-7 events at Memorial Stadium. They will be on the four Tuesdays of June from 6:00-7:00 in the evening. The Titans will be joined by West, Calhoun and Edna. For the first time, soft shell helmets will be worn at these tournaments. Titan head coach Roland Gonzalez told me his team will do so. He added that their boosters helped buy 50 soft shell helmets for 50 dollars apiece. West head coach Courtney Boyce told me his team will not wear the helmets here. Edna head coach Robert Draper told me the Cowboys won’t either. Calhoun head coach Richard Whitaker told me the Sandcrabs probably will. Coach Gonzalez told me what he likes to see from the Titans in 7-on-7.

“One of the biggest things is we want to see the transition from spring football on to 7-on-7 and understanding what we’re trying to get accomplished. 7-on-7 is an extension of our offense and defense. We want to see that implemented in that program.”
Due to a severe injury suffered by a player at last year’s state tournament, the Texas state 7-on-7 board of directors announced that starting this summer at the state tournament, all players must wear soft shell helmets during games.
