37th annual disc golf in Victoria

VICTORIA,Texas–This is the 37th annual Victoria open, utilizing Victoria disc golf course. This is part of the Professional Disc Golf Association event, the PDGA. with players from all around the state as well as other states come and take part in the tournament. Some players are from Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, as well as even Oklahoma. The sport isn’t known as well as other sports, like golf or football or basketball but it is a sport that is growing, and there is good reason for it.

“Disc golf is the greatest sport that you’ve never heard of. It’s great to get out you get to walk the park. It’s free you don’t have to pay any green fees, you get to walk in these beautiful parks and really check out the scenery and all the amenities they have to offer. It’s great to see youths and oldest seniors involved in this sport,” said Wallace Hall, who is the Victoria parks coalition board member.

There are over 200 players and 90 percent of them are from out of town bringing in revenue to the community by renting hotels, eating at restaurants and bringing their families. The tournament takes place at Riverside park and this year they also used the Patriots Park for the time ever, and it might be a new addition next year as well.
