24-year-old local man shot in weekend shooting

VICTORIA, Texas – On Sunday, July 31, at approximately 2:54 a.m., a Victoria Police officer responded to an area hospital in reference to a shots fired call.
Family members have identified the shooting victim as 24-year-old Jared Gomez, of Victoria. An aunt said Gomez was a father of three with twins on the way. He was in critical condition before dying from his injuries around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to family members 25 News Now spoke with.
The initial investigation revealed that earlier in the night an altercation broke out between numerous subjects at a local nightclub. The altercation continued as subjects left the location in separate vehicles.
Through preliminary investigation, officers determined that the driver in one of the vehicles intentionally struck the other vehicle. Shots were then fired from one vehicle to another. The gunfire struck the passenger in one of the vehicles.
A private vehicle transported the shooting victim to a hospital at which time the Victoria Police Department was notified of the shooting incident.

Law enforcement have not made an arrest, but it is believed to be an isolated incident. The public is not in any danger.
