2021 In Review: Bluebonnet Youth Ranch
Big changes for the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch in 2021
VICTORIA, Texas—In 2021, for the first time in the decades-long history of the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch in Yoakum, the ranch entered into a partnership with South Texas Children Home. This allowed the ranch to house mothers as well as children for the first time. Bluebonnet Youth Ranch board member Claud Jacobs told me they currently have four mothers and 16 children at the ranch. The mothers are learning life skills there, such as education, financial planning, and how to get a job. Jacobs added that they hope to take care of 12 different families at the ranch in the future.
For the second straight year, the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Celebrity Golf Tournament was canceled. That’s when the Victoria Television Group stepped up to help. This year’s Bluebonnet Youth Ranch raffle and silent auction was on Facebook Live on crossroadstoday.com. The auction surpassed the ranch’s goal of raising $100,000.
Bluebonnet Youth Ranch development director Micah Roth told us that 110 people signed up to bid on live auction items, and they bid between 6-10 times on each item. Roth said the average number of bids per item was 11, and that those bids raised the worth of each item by 264%.
