2 students killed following San Antonio River crash

UPDATE: In a Facebook post, Texas A&M University – Kingsville identified the driver as Ebenezer Tosin Oloba. The two students were traveling towards College Station to attend the Conference on Student Government Associations annual conference. The university’s Student Government Association is planning a candlelight vigil Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

Corpus Christi-Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a one vehicle fatality crash that occurred on February 25, 2017 at approximately 2:08 p.m. on US 77, approximately twenty (20) miles north of Refugio in Refugio County. Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet Cruz passenger car, (occupied by the driver and passenger) was traveling north bound on US 77 and for unknown reasons went off the roadway to the right, just before the San Antonio River Bridge and crashed into the San Antonio River. Oscar Felipe Fuentes, male, 19 years of age, a resident of Kingsville, Texas-passenger and driver we both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The name of the driver will be released when family has received notification. Troopers are further investigating the crash at this time.
