10-year-old of Victoria mows lawns for free

VICTORIA, Texas – “Call me.”
That’s what 10-year-old Ryan Flores of Victoria wants those who would like their lawns mowed for free to do.
It’s all part of a 50 Yard Challenge that motivates children to mow 50 lawns for single parents, veterans, disabled and elderly for free.
“Once he finishes his 50 yards, he will receive a free a mower and a blower,” said his mother Onica Valdez. “Once he gets his free equipment, Ryan will pass it along to another little boy so they can do the same.”
It’s a nationwide initiative.
Flores attends The Vine School in Victoria and is in the fourth grade.
Valdez shared her son has worked on 15 lawns since June.
Once Flores completes his goal, he plans to mow another 50 lawns for first responders.
“He can stop at 50, but he wants to keep going,” said Valdez.
Flores said the best part of this challenge is meeting people.
“Get out and do something and help people when they need it,” he said.
Valdez said it makes her feel great to see her son learn about responsibility and understand the value of every dollar.
She hopes other kids see what he is doing and inspires them to get out and help others.
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars came together to surprise Ryan with his own rider mower. So far Ryan has mowed 22 lawns of the 50 and he plans on focusing on first responders.
