Zach Bitter (Phoenix, Arizona) broke the world 100-mile trail run record to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Bitter, 32, won the Tunnel Hill 100 at Vienna, Illinois, in 12:08:36, 24 minutes faster than the previous world record, set in 2010 by Sweden’s Jonas Buud. He also shattered the previous American record, slicing 36 minutes off the standard set by Ian Sharman in 2011. Bitter holds the AR for the track 100-miler, clocking 11:40:55 in 2015.
