Industrial Volleyball Goes To State

Wednesday, Industrial volleyball did something it had never done before.
Our Alan Espejel, at Industrial High School as the Cobras left on their first ever trip to the state 3A tournament. The Cobras picked up win number 39 on the season last Saturday by defeating Goliad in the regional finals. The Cobras won in straight sets after losing to the Tigerettes in the regional finals the past two seasons. Thursday morning at 11:00, Industrial volleyball will play in the state 3A semifinals for the very first time. The Cobras face Boyd, the team Goliad beat in the state semis a year ago. It will be at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.LLOYD WITH PRAIA CLUBE IN BRAZIL: Setter Carli Lloyd (Bonsall, California, Instagram) is playing for Praia Clube in the Brazilian Superliga this winter. Praia Clube also has former U.S. Women’s National Team member Nicole Fawcett playing at opposite. Praia Clube defeated Osasco 27-29, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 on Nov. 10 to capture the Brazilian SuperCup. Match statistics were not available. Praia Clube opens the Superliga season on Nov. 16 against Volei Balneario Camboriu. HILL WITH CONEGLIANO IN ITALIAN LEAGUE: Outside hitter Kim Hill (Portland, Oregon, Instagram) is playing for Imoco Volley Conegliano in the Italian Serie A1 this winter. Further, 2012 Olympic silver medalist Megan Hodge Easy (Boston) is competing for Conegliano. Conegliano claimed the Italian Super Cup title on Nov. 10 after defeating Igor Gorgonzola Novara 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23. Hill scored 10 kills on 15 attacks while adding a 60 positive reception percent as a sub in all four sets. Easy, who started all four sets, added six kills on 22 attacks and a block. She was credited with a 50 positive reception percent on 18 chances. Conegliano (2-0), which was idle this past week in the Italian Serie A1 as its regularly scheduled match with Novara was postponed to Nov. 28, challenges 13th-place Zanetti Bergamo (0-4, 0 points) on Nov. 14 in its next Italian league match followed by 12th-place Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri (0-4, 0 points) on Nov. 18. Conegliano is also part of the European Champions League where it has a bye through to the fourth round where it will compete in Pool D.

BARTSCH-HACKLEY, CARLINI WITH NOVARA IN ITALIAN LEAGUE: Outside hitter Michelle Bartsch-Hackley (Champaign, Illinois, Twitter, Instagram) and setter Lauren Carlini (Aurora, Illinois, Twitter, Instagram) are playing for Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the Italian Serie A1 this winter. Novara lost to Imoco Volley Conegliano 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23 on Nov. 10 in the Italian Super Cup title match. Bartsch-Hackley produced seven kills on 29 attacks, two blocks and an ace. She was credited with a 63 positive reception percent on a team-leading 30 chances. Carlini set Novara to a 41 kill percent and .265 hitting efficiency. Novara (3-0, 9 points), who will play Conegliano again on Nov. 28 in the Italian Serie A1 regular season, meets 11th-place Club Italia Crai (0-4, 0 points) on Nov. 14 in its next regular season match followed by ninth-place Lardini Filottrano (1-2, 3 points) on Nov. 18.
