UHV Soccer Conference Award & Conference Tourney Update

A major award for a UHV soccer player. Jose Munoz helped spark the University of Houston-Victoria men's soccer team in a 3-0 week last week recording his second hat trick of the season.

His play didn't go unnoticed, as he was named the Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 22-28 on Tuesday. It was Munoz’s second time this season to earn the award.

Playing in just two of the Jaguars’ three games last week, he set a UHV single-season record with his second hat trick of the season in a 7-1 win over Wiley College on Saturday. He also had two assists in the match helping his set a UHV single-game record for most points at eight.

The 5-foot-8 senior forward from Houston, had a big night on Senior Day as he struck for his first goal in the first two minutes of the contest and added a second goal seven minutes later. He wrapped up the Jaguars’ scoring with his final goal in the 87th minute of the contest.

On the week, he recorded six shots, including five shots on goal and one game-winning goal. He shares the team lead for goals (6) and points (14) on the season for the Jaguars.

The University of Houston-Victoria men and women’s quarterfinals matches for the 2018 Raising Cane’s RRAC Soccer Championships have been set for this Friday and Saturday.

The third-seeded UHV men will play host to sixth-seeded Our Lady of the Lake in a 1 p.m. match on Friday at The Cage. The winner advances to the conference tournament semifinals set for Nov. 8 at Texas A&M-Texarkana.

The fifth-ranked UHV women will held to Alexandria, La., for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday against LSU-Alexandria. The winner will advance to the conference tournament semifinals set for Nov. 8 at Texas A&M-Texarkana.

The UHV men (10-1-1) defeated OLLU early this season 1-0, while the UHV women (7-6) are coming off a 2-0 win over LSUA on Monday.

In the other men’s quarterfinals match, fifth-seeded Houston St. Thomas will be at fourth-seeded University of the Southwest on Saturday in a 1 p.m. match. LSU-Shreveport is the No. 1 seed for the tournament and LSU-Alexandria is the No. 2 seed. The men’s championship is set for Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Texarkana.

In the other women’s quarterfinals match, sixth-seeded Southwest will be out third-seed OLLU on Friday at 3 p.m. St. Thomas is the women’s No. 1 seed and LSU-Shreveport is the No. 2 seed. The championship game is set for Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. in Texarkana.
