Athlete Of The Week: Jacob Bordovsky

Posted: Updated:

Our Athlete Of The Week is Jacob Bordovsky. After a 1-9 season a year ago, expectations for St. Joe football in 2018, tempered even for the most loyal flyer fans. Quarterback Jacob Bordovsky, however, doing his part to rewrite that narrative, leading St. Joe to a 63-20 drubbing against previously unbeaten Yorktown on Friday, and accounting for six touchdowns in the process. Said Bordovsky, "Very comfortable. Like I said, everything's just starting to click. I know if I put the ball out there my receivers are good enough to go run underneath it. A lot of times, even if it's not a perfect throw, they make me look good." With 77 yards and four touchdowns on the ground to go along with 155 yards passing and two more scores, Bordovsky, leading St Joe to a staggering 56 unanswered points in the win against Yorktown - and a 4-1 start in the process. Head coach Bryan Jones says it's all a product of his work ethic.  "It's just the way he works. You know, he's always throwing. This summer it would be Saturday or Sunday and he'd go 'coach, can I borrow some footballs'. He'd go get the footballs and he's throwing on the weekends, he's working with his receivers. He's geared up and ready to go and he's becoming a real student of the game." The quarterback and his Flyers, meanwhile, keep flying high. But despite their hot start, Bordovsky making sure to keep his eyes on the prize. "I mean it gives me and my team a lot of confidence. This will probably be one of the best teams we face. We're just looking to springboard off this win and get another one going into district." Luckily for the Flyers, Bordovsky will have a chance to do just that this Friday against Second Baptist.
