West, STJ Football Previews

Posted: Updated:

West and St. Joe football now get to play on Thursday night due to weather problems. West football has moved up its district opener on the road. The Warriors finished up pre-district play with a two-point loss here to San Benito. West put up 41 points in their second game with Donovan Harris as starting quarterback. Head coach Courtney Boyce told me how the offense is responding to that big change. "They're getting more comfortable with every week. It'll improve and get better. The team's rallied around him and they had some success on Friday. We just have to continue to do a good job of blocking."
West football hits the road to Corpus Christi a day earlier than planned. The Warriors will face Moody Thursday night at 7:00 at Flour Bluff.
St. Joe football, also now with a Thursday night game on the road. The Flyers are 2-0 under first year head coach Bryan Jones. St. Joe scored in the last seconds to win at Shiner St. Paul. Coach Jones told me how he felt about that exciting win over the Cardinals. "Pleased but not satisfied, having 21 points taken off the board due to penalties. It's great for the kids because they learned how to overcome some adversity and fight back in a hostile situation."
St. Joe football was scheduled to play at Industrial on Friday night. That game, moved up a night to Thursday night at 7:00 at Cobra Field.
Howard and Savannah State have postponed their football game scheduled for Saturday in Washington due to the threat of Hurricane Florence. A make-up date has not been determined.
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner Dennis Thomas said in a statement that the health and safety of the players, staffs and fans come first.
5:20 p.m.
Kilton Anderson threw three first-half touchdown passes to help Coastal Carolina beat Campbell 58-21 in a game played early and moved to Buies Creek, North Carolina, because of Hurricane Florence.
Originally set for Saturday at Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina, the game was the first time an FBS program visited an FCS school in a true road game since Army at Yale in 2014. Admission was free at Barker-Lane Stadium.
With its campus evacuated, the Chanticleers (2-1) headed to St. Augustine, Florida, after the game to wait out the storm.
