Community Crossroads welcomes District 27 candidates

The General Election on November 6, 2018 is drawing near. Several of the District 27 candidates are on Community Crossroads. Early voting starts October 22, 2018 and ends November 2, 2018. District 27 includes Aransas, Calhoun, Wharton, Lavaca, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, Victoria, and Wharton counties and some parts of Bastrop, Caldwell, Gonzales, and San Patricio counties. 

UHV Associate Professor Craig Goodman is on to talk about Texas politics and the upcoming General Election. 

Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry, VCAM,  has an open house and raffle coming up September 15th from 9 a.m. to noon at 108 North Liberty. Raffle tickets are six for $25 or $5 each. Call 361-572-0048 for more details or click here. VCAM provides food assistance to those in need. It started in 1986 and is a volunteer-run organization. 

O-Fish-All Business has been around for three years now and on September 22, 2018 it will have Battle 4 Zero. The event focuses on suicide prevention and educates the public about the 22 veterans who take their own lives everyday in the U.S. The event includes a 5k silkies march, 5k ruck walk, homerun derby and cornhole tournament. Victoria College continues on the show with its "Community College was part of my journey", campaign. Dr. Michael Hummel will talk about his 48 years with Victoria College as a professor of history and he was a student at VC in 1960.  Click here for more. 

Next week, we'll meet with the Victoria Police Department about National Night Out and Cuero Regional Hospital is in to talk about several events taking place in Cuero.

      The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspections services announced Friday that GSHW, a Houston, Texas, establishment is recalling 1,786 pounds of ready-to-eat salad with chicken products that contain a corn ingredient that may be contaminated with salmonella and listeria.     • Goliad remain undefeated in district play with win over Industrial

      The Goliad Tigers moved to 6-1 and 2-0 in district play after blowing out the Industrial Cobra 44-6 Friday afternoon. 

    • Fire starts in second floor of town home on Victoria Station Rd

      The Victoria Fire Department responded to a town home apartment fire on Victoria Station Road Friday afternoon.  

    • Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot reaches $1 billion dollars

      Lottery fever is sweeping the nation because the Mega Million Jackpot has hit a record one billion dollars. Newscenter 25's David Gibson went to see how residents would spend the money. The Mega Millions jackpot hit a record high one billion dollars, so I drove around Victoria seeing what residents would do with that kind of money. 

    • School Nurses learn important lessons about disaster response

      VISD along with nurses from throughout the state of Texas participated in a training on how to handle disasters. Newscenter 25's David Gibson attended the meeting and explains what the nurses are being taught. School nurses from across the state of Texas came to the VISD conference center to get school Emergency triage training.   "We show them how to lay the ground work and have a plan in place so when a disaster whether it's a natural disaster or a man made one.

    • Early voting begins Monday

      Early Voting in Person begins at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center, October 22, 2018 through November 2, 2018. 

    • Contaminated corn to blame for ready-to-eat salad recall

      The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-44056” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.       

    • Record Mega Millions jackpot grows to $1.47 billion

       Cumulative Mega Millions draw sales in Texas (for this roll) for today up to the 1 p.m. hour are $17,766,542.

    • 2 arrested for metal theft in Victoria

      Two men were arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with theft of metal wire totaling nearly 20 thousand dollars. 

    • Calhoun County looking for info on vandalized safety lights

      The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is looking for information about vandalism to safety lights along Old Seadrift Highway.
