Update: Final day for Limon's BBQ to pay tax debt

Posted: Updated:

Update 9/19/18:

Today marks the last day for Limon's BBQ to pay their outstanding tax debt before the state begins the process of liquidating their property.

Both Limon's BBQ locations were seized earlier this month by the state comptroller's office after the restaurant failed to pay $132,000 in sales taxes.

Spokesperson Kevin Lyons says the restaurant has until the end of today, September 19th, to enter a payment plan and added, while there is still time, he believes an agreement will not be reached.

If an agreement isn't reached, the state will weigh their options to re-coup the debt, which may include auctioning off Limon's BBQ property, and will announce their plans in the coming days.

Update 9/10/18:

The Texas State Comptroller's office has officially seized both Limon's BBQ locations after the restaurant failed to pay off their outstanding taxes.

The Comptroller's office originally seized the Houston Highway location on August 30th after the company failed to pay one hundred and thirty two thousand dollars in sales taxes dating back to 2016. Spokesperson Kevin Lyons says, after both parties were unable to reach a payment agreement, the Comptroller's office seized the Moody Street Location on September 6th. Lyons adds the state will begin auctioning off the properties unless an agreement can be reached by September 18th.

Original Story 8/31/18:

Local restaurant Limon's BBQ could be forced to shut down for good after the IRS seized their Houston Highway location for failure to pay state taxes.

Texas State Comptroller PIO Kevin Lyons tells Newscenter 25 the restaurant failed to pay sales taxes to the state from October 2016 to August 2017 and again from March until July of this year. The restaurant owes $132,571.16 in back taxes and tax penalties. According to Lyons, Limon's BBQ has been operating without a sales tax permit since August 2016. The Houston Highway location was seized and shut down Wednesday around 11:30 AM. Lyons adds the Moody Street location could also be shut down and seized by the state if the owner fails to pay the taxes or enter a payment plan with the IRS.

We reached out to Limon's BBQ for comment but have not received a statement at this time.
