Yoakum Football Preview

Posted: Updated:

The last time we saw Yoakum football play, the Bulldogs were losing in the state semifinals.
Then four of the Bulldogs top players signed with NCAA Division Ine colleges, three of them with Power five conference teams. Despite that, Yoakum is ranked fifth in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine state 3A Division I pre-season poll. The Bulldogs have seven offensive and three defensive starters back. They have two starting quarterbacks returning in Holden Lauer and Hagen Garvin, a starting fullback returning in Montreal Jones, and four offensive line starters back in Trey Smith, Eric Ratley, Joey Dominguez and Conner Brandt. Head coach Bo Robinson talked with our Sean Coffey about trying to live up to high expectations. "Yes, but that's where you wanna be. We're ranked number 5 right now because of the success the teams the past two years have had. This team's gonna have to go out and earn every bit of respect they get because there's a lot of people around here that don't feel like we'll as good as we have been."
Yoakum football's first scrimmage is on August 17 at home against Giddings.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson got another five-star quarterback on campus - Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

Favre spent Wednesday visiting the Tigers, speaking with players and watching practice.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said he and Favre had recently become friendly and when Swinney asked Favre to visit, the one-time Green Bay Super Bowl champion accepted.

Favre surprised the players in their morning meeting, then spent time talking to them about life, the game and his 20-year NFL career.

Swinney said Favre's message to the Tigers was to enjoy their time on campus and embrace the present because life flies by quickly.

Favre stayed around for Clemson's practice, the team's first in full pads.

Swinney said Favre enjoyed his time with the Tigers and the players appreciated meeting him.
