East and West Volleyball Begin 2018 Season

Both East and West Volleyball opened their 2018 seasons on Tuesday, with East going up against Floresville and Edna and West facing East Bernard on the road. West was victorious while East split their matches, losing 1-3 against Floresville before defeating Edna 2-0.

In their match against East Bernard, West took a commanding lead early as they won the first set, 25-21 and the second, 25-22. After dropping the third, 30-28, they bounced back to take the final set 25-16 to secure the victory. Kia Willborn had 8 aces for West to lead all players - while adding 13 assists and 9 digs - and Lexi Morris led the Warriors with 8 kills.

Against Floresville, East dropped a tightly contested first set, 24-26, before coming back strong to take the second 25-21. Floresville would prove to be a little too strong, however, as they took the next two by scores of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively. Leilani Wimbash-Gay led East in the first match with 15 kills and 15 digs, while Loren Escalona added 11 assists. 

In the second leg, East disposed of Edna with relative ease, winning in straight sets 25-16, 25-22. Wimbash-Gay led all Titans with 11 digs in that match, adding 5 kills and a block. Trinity Haynes had 5 assists in the match against Edna.

The next action for both East and West will be this coming Thursday and Saturday in the Calhoun Tournament in Calhoun.
