Garcia Continues to Excel for Generals

Posted: Updated:

In what's been a successful season through and through for the Generals, one of the team's brightest spots has been starter Pedro Garcia. Garcia, a Maracaibo, Venezuela native who pitches collegiately for MidAmerican Nazarene University, has fast become the ace for a Generals team still battling it out for the top spot in the second half of the TCL season. Despite his success in 2018, the pitcher told our Don Brubaker there's still plenty he can improve upon.

"I'm still working on my strike zone," Garcia said Thursday. "I have a pretty good fastball and slider. I'm still working on my strike zone to work more on my fastball."

As the TCL season winds down, Garcia finds himself among the league leaders in multiple pitching categories. He leads the Generals and is tied for the league lead with five wins, while his 65 strikeouts also pace the TCL. His 3.78 ERA is good for fourth-best in the league.

"I came here in the beginning of the summer early as I've done all my career," said Garcia. "I planned this summer to challenge myself to improve every day. That's why I'm still at the top in the league right now."

Garcia has been a big part of the Generals' continued success, as they sit at 30-17 for the summer, just a half game back of the first place Brazos Valley Bombers. The Generals are on the road in Texarkana the next two nights, but will have a chance to catch the Bombers when they come to Riverside on Sunday for a two-game set. The series will be the last for the Generals before Wednesday's first-round playoff game at Riverside, which is also a free ticket night. If the Generals catch the Bombers in the standings, they will have home-field advantage throughout the TCL playoffs.
