Isolated Afternoon Showers and Storms Friday and Saturday; Lots of Heat Next Week

Posted: Updated:

A weak plume of tropical moisture extending from the northwestern Gulf of Mexico inland across Southeast and East Texas will combine with daytime heating to allow isolated showers and thunderstorms through Saturday.  Thereafter, our old nemesis, the upper level ridge, rebuilds from the Desert Southwest into the Lone Star State to shut down rain chances next week.  Look for increasing daytime temperatures and heat index values next week as well, with lingering low level moisture becoming trapped under the ridge.  Meantime, the tropics are essentially quiet, with Chris having transitioned to a post-tropical remnant low racing toward Newfoundland and Beryl's remnants a disorganized and elongated mass of showers north of the Bahamas.
