UHV break ground on new dorm hall

Posted: Updated:

The University of Victoria-Houston held their groundbreaking ceremony early Tuesday morning to commemorate the construction of their brand new dormitory.

The new hall will have 272 rooms and will include amenities such as a reception area and event space.  The dorm is named after Provost Emeritus Don Smith and wife Mona for their contribution and dedicated service to the university, an honor Dr. Smith is proud to accept.

"Oh, well it's tremendously, it's tremendously gratifying. It's not something that I expected or she expected but it is indeed a great honor. It's one that we appreciate, particularly it being in Victoria, where we lived for so many years."

Smith Hall will cost the university about twenty two million dollars to complete. Construction is expected to finish by August 2019.
