Today is National Peace Officer Memorial day and DeWitt County law enforcement honored those who lost their life serving the badge.
"They do not run from danger, they run towards it they have taken an oath to protect and serve all the citizens that depend on them," tells Sheriff Carl Bowen, DeWitt County Sheriff.

As the music faded Tuesday morning, Sheriff Bowen says this to honor those who gave their lives to protect us.

"To honor those that came before us, that have paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in the line of duty," adds Sheriff Bowen.

During the ceremony sheriff Carl Bowen says his thoughts and prayers go out...
"To those brave men and women, as well as their families that still carry the burden of their loved ones that cannot be replaced," says Sheriff Bowen.

Sheriff Bowen offers a simple thank you to the families of fallen officers.
"Very simply thank you! thank you for their sacrifice, thank you for the lives that they led. They have made our county and our profession a better one because of their sacrifice," declares Sheriff Bowen.

People in the community came to support those fallen officers today.
"Just to pay my respect to the peace officers of DeWitt County that have lost their lives in the line of duty over the years," says Tommy Mccabe, Resident.

Mccabe felt honored to come out and thinks more people need to support their first responders.
"Well it makes me feel good, i think all of our citizens should support our first responders. Our police,  fire, ems. They are working to keep us safe," explains McCabe.

Sheriff Bowen says to always remember your first responders because they are here to help you.
