"EMS Strong: Stronger Together" is the theme for this year's EMS week

(VICTORIA, TX) –  The Victoria Fire Department will be celebrating National EMS Week from May 20 through May 26. National Emergency Medical

Services (EMS) Week is designated as a time to honor the dedicated EMS professionals, including emergency medical technicians and paramedics from

the Victoria Fire Department, who serve the citizens in our community every day.


The Fire Department has several activities planned throughout the week. The week’s activities will kick-off on Monday, May 21 with a Medical Director’s

Roundtable, led by the Department’s Medical Director, Dr. John McNeill. Dr. McNeill share some words of inspiration and encouragement to the Medics, and

members of the Department will be recognized with Life Saving Awards. This year’s theme is “EMS Strong: Stronger Together.”

On Wednesday, May 23, the community is invited to attend an EMS Open House and Public Education Event from 4-6:30 pm at Victoria Fire Station No. 6,

located at 1101 Ball Airport Rd. There will be tours of the fire station, equipment demonstrations and an opportunity to meet the Firefighters, EMTs and

paramedics that serve our community.

For the Victoria Fire Department, the goal of EMS Week is to enhance the well-being and safety of our Community through a Public Education effort, as well

as bring together local community members to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving medical services on the front line.

A public education event will be held at Wednesday’s Open House and will include Hands Only CPR demonstrations presented by Citizens Medical Center

and DeTar Healthcare System, as well as Stop the Bleed demonstrations presented by Golden Crescent Regional Advisory Council. The event also

includes a helicopter display, ATV/UTV displays provided by Velocity Power Sports and fire safety presentations by the Victoria Fire Marshal’s Office and

the Texas Forestry Service.

Citizens Medical Center is hosting an EMS Appreciation Lunch for local EMS professionals on May 21, 23, & 24 and DeTar Healthcare System is providing

the EMS professionals with an Appreciation BBQ on May 25th.

    • Summer is prime time for hand, foot and mouth disease

      Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common illness that typically affects infants and children under the age of ten. 

    • DPS investigating a fatal two car accident in Rasin

      DPS responded to a fatal two vehicle accident at around 11 Saturday night in Raisin. DPS says a honda civic was speeding northbound on us highway 59 when they crashed into a gmc truck in the lane in front of them. 

    • Angel Lucy's Funeral home holds shoe pickup

      We first introduced you to the Angel Lucy's Funeral Home on August 5th when they measured students for back to school shoes.well, this weekend the students received those shoes. Newscenter 25's David Gibson went to check out the event and tells us more. "We want to be the funeral home that gives back to the community," tells Cesar Ornelas, Owner.

    • Ted Cruz speaks to Victorians at a rally

      The Victoria Republican party held a rally with guest speaker Senator Ted Cruz. At the rally Ted Cruz spoke about things that are changing to in Washington. 

    • Suzie's Family handing out flyers searching for answers

      Family members and volunteers went throught the Crossroads to post flyers to see if anyone knows any information. They handed out about 12 hundred flyers. The family tells us they have so many questions but no answers and they are desperate for any information. 

    • Students receive supplies at annual Pack the bus event

      This years Pack the Bus event brought in more supplies than ever before. But that's not the most exciting part....the best part happened today when the supplies were distributed to the children eagerly waiting to start school next week. Newscenter 25's David Gibson attended the give away at faith family church. "To go out in the community and make a difference in the community," says Col. Mike Petrash, Organizer.

    • Marq Perez's attorney files an appeal

      Mark Di Carlo filed an appeal on July 27th because they had legal disagreements with the evidence presented during the trial Di Carlo states that out of thousands of pages of Perez's facebook messages only a few were cherry picked for evidence during the trial. Di Carlo also says out of Perez's 3 hour long video interrogation, prosecutors only used 10 minutes worth and he believes this gave an untrue characterization of Perez to the jury.
