Local Boxer Wins Junior Olympics Regional Title

Posted: Updated:

Meet a Victoria ten-year-old boy who is already a champion.
Eric Acosta of Two Countries Boxing Club, recently winning the Junior Olympics regional boxing championship in Laredo. Acosta won in the 70 pound novice class, winning decisions over two other fighters, and improving his all-time record to 5-4. Not bad for his first trip to regionals. Eric's been in boxing training since he was four years old. I talked with Eric and his father, who's also his coach. Said Eric Acosta, "I like workouts, getting six-pack muscles. I like working out until I retire at 35 years old." Said Eric's father, Ramon Acosta, "I'm very proud because he's been training very hard. When he is in the ring he put on a lot of pressure and a lot of combinations. So he became a champion."
Eric Acosta's next boxing match will come a week from Saturday in Corpus Christi.

Wladimir Klitschko has refused to rule out a return to a professional boxing ring and stated he will return to the sport for the right cause.

Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) last fought Anthony Joshua back in April 2017 before officially announcing his retirement in August despite talks of a rematch against the Brit.

However, it's been over a year since their meeting and the Ukrainian has hinted a comeback could eventually be on the cards.

"You never say never, things can change," Klitschko told 112 International. "People often switch careers during their lifetimes.

Houston Astros outfielder George Springer is day to day with a bruised left elbow after being hit by a 92 mph pitch from Texas Rangers starter Cole Hamels in the fourth inning.

Springer remained on the ground for nearly two minutes Friday night as Houston's medical staff attended to him. He finished the inning as a baserunner, but was replaced in center field in the top of the fourth by Jake Marisnick.

Springer is hitting .296 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs for the defending World Series champs. He set a franchise record for hits in a nine-inning game on Monday night in Oakland, going 6 for 6 with a three-run homer, a double, four singles and four runs scored.
