STJ Baseball Loses Plus UHV Softball Conference Honor

St. Joe baseball's playoff hopes end Monday night. The Flyers lose at Corpus IWA, 9-2, to fall to 2-4 in district. Matthew Janak was the losing pitcher. He had eight strikeouts. Patrick Kenney had the Flyers' only hit.

Emily Flores has provided a hot bat for the University of Houston-Victoria the past few weeks and this week it did not go unnoticed.

Flores, a sophomore from Houston, has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 16-22.

Flores scored seven runs and drove in seven runs in a 6-0 week to help the Jaguars clinch a spot in the RRAC Softball Championships.

The first baseman went 3-for-7 with a home run and four RBIs in a pair of wins over NCAA Division 3 Trinity, and then drove in three runs with a double as the Jaguars swept a four-game series with the University of the Southwest.

On the week, she went 7-for-19 with a walk and two steals and a 0.632 slugging percentage. She did not strike out in 19 plate appearances and stole two bases. Defensively she did not commit and error in 31 chances that included 28 putouts and three assists.

Texas A&M-Texarkana’s Ashley Nipper was named the RRAC Pitcher of the Week.White Sox reliever Danny Farquhar is talking to his doctors and family after surgery over the weekend to address a ruptured aneurysm that occurred during Friday night's game against Houston.
Farquhar remains in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Rush University Medical Center. The team announced Monday the 31-year-old right-hander is expected to remain hospitalized for the next few weeks.
Farquhar passed out in the sixth inning Friday night after getting two outs against Houston. He was helped by team medical personnel and on-site EMTs, and he regained consciousness before he was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Additional testing revealed a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. He had surgery Saturday to address the aneurysm, and the team reported his medical team felt he was "progressing well."
