Early voting begins April 23 for VISD and water districts election

Early Voting in Person for Victoria ISD & Water Control & Improvement Districts 1 & 2, May 5, 2018 General Election will begin on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center in Classroom A. Monday through Friday the hours of operation will be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Monday & Tuesday April 30th & May 1st the hours will be 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The Public Health Center is located at 2805 N. Navarro.

Additional early voting will be conducted on April 30th and May 1st from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at Water Control & Improvement District No. 1, 93 Illinois, Bloomington & Water Control & Improvement District No. 2, 91 N Preston, Placedo.

All registered voters in Victoria ISD districts 2 & 3 and Water Control & Improvement Districts 1 & 2 are eligible to vote in this election. Voters will be required to provide an acceptable form of Photo ID to vote in this election.

Acceptable forms of Photo ID are.

* Texas Driver’s License issued by DPS,

* Texas Personal Identification issued by DPS,

* Texas Personal Identification Card,

* Texas Handgun License issued by DPS,

* United States Military Identification Card containing your photograph,

* United States Citizenship Certificate containing your photograph

* United States Passport (book or card)

If you do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain one of these IDs there are provisions in place to assist you in being able to vote.

Early voting by mail is ongoing at this time. Applications for those who qualify will be accepted until 5 pm on Tuesday, April 24th. To be eligible for a ballot by mail an individual must meet one or more of the following criteria.

* 65 years of age or older by or on Election Day.

* Illness or disability that prevents you from entering a polling location.

* Confined in jail but not having been finally convicted of a felony.

* Absent from the county during early voting in person or on Election Day.

If you are interested in early voting by mail you may contact the Elections Office at 576-0124 to have an application mailed to you. You may also visit the Elections Office website at www.vctx.org/elections and select Early Voting by Mail. Complete the application online and print it out for your signature. Mail the application to Early Voting Clerk, 2805 N. Navarro, Ste 500, Victoria, TX 77901-3947. We cannot accept application to vote by mail in person once early voting in person has begun.

      I talked with Major Laura Martin earlier and they are close to getting the shelter open. However, they must get the roof fixed first. "We decided to go with the repair plan right now. The replacement starts at $150,000 and goes up to $250,00 dollars," said Martin.
