Goliad man's car catches fire after police chase in Victoria, drugs found

Victoria Police Department officers went to a residence in the 4100 block of Callis St. in response to a disturbance on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 12:05 AM. Before police arrived, Fidel Sosa, 33, of Goliad TX, left the location in a car and struck Jonathan Mott, 22, of Victoria TX, causing non-life-threatening injuries.

While enroute to the call, officers saw a car matching the description of Sosa’s leaving the location.

Officers attempted to stop the car and a pursuit began. Sosa’s car was damaged during the pursuit and eventually caught fire as a result. Sosa and a woman passenger got out of the car near 2900 E. Rio Grande St. and fled. Once caught, Sosa resisted arrest. The woman passenger was not located.

Sosa was in possession of drugs including Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Xanax, and Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and was the subject of an outstanding parole warrant.

Sosa was transported to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention in a Vehicle with a Previous Conviction (3rd Degree Felony), Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot with a Previous Conviction (State Jail Felony), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor A), four counts of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance (all felonies), Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor B), and the outstanding Parole warrant that held no bond.
