Athletes Of The Week: West Boys Golf

Posted: Updated:

Our Athletes Of The Week come from the West boys golf team. West boys golf started play at the 27-5A championship last week with one main goal: winning their first district championship in three years. The Warriors were in second by five shots after the first round. They made up that deficit with room to spare, winning district by 43 shots. Logan Lee of West was second in individual medalist and teammate Nick Cantwell was third. The West boys had achieved their goal. Said Cantwell, "It was definitely. We knew we could set it and win it. We just played our game and hoped we won." Said Lee, "I believe that it was a major accomplishment for us, It'll give us a lot more confidence going into regionals. Hopefully we can succeed there as well."  Said head coach John Schaller, "We had a little home cooking. Being here at Colony Creek definitely helped. The second day we had a couple of guys that really stepped up, including Nick Cantwell and Logan Lee." That district win allowed West boys golf to continue its outstanding streak. For eight straight years, every year there has been a Warrior boys golf team, they have made it to regionals. Said Lee, "It's a major accomplishment. It's a little bit of pressure keeping it up. but you just have to play the best golf you can." Said coach Schaller, "We've had some good success here and the standards are high. That's one of the joys of coaching here. That was a big goal for us again and that's just one of the things that's come to be expected here. We're glad to be able to achieve that goal again this year."
West boys golf starts play at regionals on the 23rd at the Golf Club Of Texas in San Antonio.
