Weather, getting in the way of UHV softball. Due to threatening weather conditions on Friday, the Red River Conference series between the Jaguars and Jarvis Christian in Hawkins, pushed back a day. The two teams will now play a doubleheader beginning Saturday afternoon at 2:00 and a single game Sunday morning at 11:00. UHV baseball comes up to its final home conference series of the season needing wins.
UHV got a combined no-hitter from Jonathan Jimenez and Nate Pena in its home series last weekend. but the jaguars lost that game, and lost two out of three to  LSU-Alexandria. That puts UHV at 7-11 and tied for sixth in the Red River conference standings. The top six go to the conference tournament. I talked with two Jaguars about last weekend's home stand. Said right fielder Derek Maciejeski, "Our pitching did outstanding  Being able to pull off a no-hitter is something that you live for. It was huge for us, it was great." Said pitcher Collin Quinn, "Usually we know we'll get a lot of good ab's from our hitters and we'll put up some runs. All we can do is keep pitching like we are and wins are gonna come." UHV baseball's final home regular season conference series starts Friday afternoon at two at Riverside. The Jaguars take on A&M-Texarkana in a single, nine-inning game. The two teams also face each other in a doubleheader at Riverside starting at noon Saturday.

After posting multiple-hits in all of Florida State's five games, freshman infielder Sydney Sherrill (Moore, Okla.) has been named the Week 9 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week, USA Softball announced today. This marks the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week honor for Sherrill and second for Florida State this season as pitcher Kylee Hanson received the honor for her performance in Week 2.
