A big Wednesday for a West volleyball player, and for the whole program.
Senior setter Emily Olson, signing with Weber State, an NCAA Division I university in Ogden, Utah. In her senior season with the warriors, she was named Setter Of The Year in district and team MVP. I talked with Emily and Warrior volleyball head coach Alysia Hill. Said Olson, "Ever since I can remember it's been a dream to play D-I volleyball and I'm just so grateful for this opportunity." Said coach Hill, "Oh it's always great for our program but it's so exciting for the athlete as well to sign. Emily Olson has done a fabulous job over the seasons we've been blessed with her. This is really an exciting moment."
West fans, also very happy about the big win for their baseball team late Tuesday night. The Warriors downed their archrivals from East, 4-2, That puts West at 4-5 in district, tying them for the fourth and final playoff spot in 27-5A with five games left. Colton Matus had two hits and an RBI. Matthew DelLaGarza gave up just one hit and struck out seven to get the win.  I talked to Warrior baseball head coach Manuel Alvarado about the big win. "It's a great win for us. We needed that one after the first round. We're fighting for a playoff spot. We told the kids our playoffs started last Friday night. Winning last night was huge for us."
