H.S. Baseball & Softball Friday Results

Here are Friday night's area high school baseball scores and stats.  West baseball looked to break a two-game district losing streak. The Warriors facing Lamar Consolidated. Bottom of the first, no score, Matthew Delagarza changes that with this two-run homer to put the Warriors on top early. West cruises from there to win 11-0 in five. Walker Bordovsky pitches the two-hitter with seven strikeouts.. Two RBI's apiece from Noah Rodriguez and Ky Zarate.
Tuesday night, West baseball, now 2-2 in district, plays at Fulshear. East baseball improves to 4-0 in district with a 5-1 win at Calhoun. Xander Mahan was the winning pitcher, tossing a two-hitter with five strikeouts. Two hits apiece for the Titans Eric Davila and Landon Simpson. St. Joe baseball improves to 8-11 on the season with a 12-1 non-district win in six at Runge Friday night. Ricky Gonzalez and Zeke Holder combine for a one-hitter for the Flyers, and Holder goes 3-for-5 with an RBI. West softball gets its first district win, 16-3 in five innings over Lamar Consolidated. Cheyenne Migl pitcher 5 hits allowed 3 k’s Aaliyah Vela hit a single, double, and triple Breeana young hit a double Courtney Marthiljohni hit a double and a home run Madyson dybala hit two doubles Christine wenske hit two doubles 14 hits total. East softball loses 8-2 at Calhoun to fall to 3-3 in district. Kaylynn franklin and danielle gomez had the Titans RBI's.

Yoakum’s Denver Evans became the first spring signee for the University of Houston-Victoria baseball team on Thursday.

Evans, a senior at Yoakum High School, signed his letter of intent to play baseball with the Jaguars beginning with the 2019 season.

A two-sport athlete, Evans has excelled at Yoakum where he was named the 2017 District 27-3A offensive MVP in baseball and began this season recognized as one of the Class 3A Region IV Top 40 players by Texas High School Baseball.

The 5-foot-5 infielder is currently hitting .373 for the Bulldogs through 16 games this season. He has scored 14 runs, driven in eight and has a 0.591 on-base percentage with five doubles and two triples.

“UHV is close to my hometown and it is a great school,” said Evans in making his commitment.

Evans was also a member of the Yoakum Junior League All-Start team that advanced to the 2014 Jr. League Baseball East Texas State Tournament.

He also knows about success on the field has he has been a member of the Bulldogs state final football team in 2016 and state semifinals this past season.

Evans plans to study mathematics while attending UHV.
