VISD Baseball & Softball Previews

Posted: Updated:

Big Tuesday for VISD baseball and softball. District play starts for VISD baseball Tuesday. West starts district play with a record of 8-7-2. The Warriors went 2-2 in the VISD tournament, ending up Saturday morning with a win over St. Joe. I asked Warrior baseball head coach ManuelAalvarado how well his team is playing going into district.  "Right now our pitching staff is coming along real well. Matthew's done a good job. Our bats are finally coming around. That's a good thing to see." East baseball is 7-7-1 going into district play. The Titans went 2-2 at the VISD tournament, losing in the third place game to Concordia. The Titans are the defending district champs. I asked head coach Wes Kolle how good his team looks as they go for a second straight 27-5A crown. "It's always good to play at home and it had been a few weeks since we had played at home. To get four games in at Riverside was huge. I thought we battled and had a chance to win all four games." West baseball starts district play Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at Rosenberg Terry. East baseball's district opener, at Riverside Tuesday night at 7:00 vs. Lamar Consolidated.
Also Tuesday night, the first meeting of the season between East and West softball. The Titans are 2-1 in district after scoring 17 runs to beat Lamar Consolidated last week at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex. I asked head coach Melissa Buck how pleased she was with her team's early offensive power. "It's been good. It's been either really good or really bad. The one loss that we had we got shut out. Hopefully we can carry it over and score enough runs to win."  West softball is 12-10 overall this season, but 0-3 in district. The Warriors have lost all three district games on the road. They were supposed to have hosted Calhoun last Tuesday, but hard rains forced the game to be moved to Port Lavaca. I asked head coach John White how tough its been to start district play with three road games. "It's been tough on the girls having to go to Calhoun last week instead of playing our first home game. It was disappointing so they're looking forward to finally getting a home game."
East vs. West in softball at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex Tuesday night at 6:30.

Repairs to field and infrastructure damage caused by Harvey have only recently been completed.  After a sluggish start that put them in ...
