Dewitt Commissioners announce plans after Justice of the Peace's Passing

Posted: Updated:

The Dewitt County Commissioners announced their plans to fill the vacancy for Justice of the Peace Precinct Two during their Monday meeting.

County Commissioners agreed to accept applications to replace the vacancy left by Judge George Robinson's passing. Robinson passed away following a months long battle with cancer. He was 74. County Judge Daryl Fowler says the commissioners will review applications before sending possible candidates to the republican party, who will choose their nominee for the general election.

"Because there was no Democratic primary, and no Democratic nominee, the Republican Party exclusively, this summer after the new executive committee is sworn in, the new chairman is sworn in, will caucus. And, they will put forth their nominee."

Fowler adds a nominee is expected to be selected in June and will run unopposed in the November general election.
