UHV Softball gains a home doubleheader conference split Friday.

The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team collected their first Red River Athletic Conference, but managed only to come away with a split of the conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-Texarkana on Friday.

The Jaguars used a six-run second inning to capture the opening game with a 6-4 victory, but the Eagles came back and used a solo home run in the seventh inning to take the nightcap 4-3.

The Jaguars (6-9, 1-4 in conference) and the Eagles (6-10, 3-4 RRAC) will wrap up the three-game series with a single game at noon on Saturday at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.

After missing a scoring opportunity in the first, the Jaguars sent 13 batters to the plate in the second to score all six runs in the opening game.

Madeline Herrera (SR/Baytown, Texas) and Alyssa Adames (JR/Victoria, TX) each had two RBIs in the inning, while Michelle Revels (JR/Corpus Christi, TX) and Marissa Longoria (SO/Houston, TX) also added RBIs.

Gabby Davila (JR/Houston, TX) paced the Jaguars seven-hit attack going 3-for-3, while Adames was 2-for-4. Lisa Sosa (FR/Corpus Christi, TX) and Herrera had the other two hits.

Payton Branham earned the win in the circle for the Jaguars, while Cheyenne Galindo (FR/Ganado, TX) picked up a save.

The Jaguars jumped out quickly in the nightcap with a three-run first inning.

Angelica Davidson (SO/Portland, TX) drove home Michelle Revels with a single to center. After Ashley Reyna (FR/Harlingen, TX) was hit by a pitch, Torey Dumont (JR/Pleasanton, TX) slapped a double to deep center scoring Davidson and Reyna.

The Eagles answered right back with three in the top of the second to tie the game at 3-3.

Both teams missed on scoring opportunities through the middle innings with the Eagles finally breaking through in the top of the seventh on a leadoff home run by Hannah cooper to left-centerfield.

Revels paced the Jaguars going 2-for-4, while Davidson, Reyna, Dumont, Kelsey Tidrick (SO/Port Lavaca, TX) and Jackie Longoria (FR/Edinburg, TX) each had hits in the game.

Tidrick was tagged with the loss in relief for the Jaguars.
