HTN Update: News you need to know for today

Posted: Updated:

Happy Friday Crossroads! I'm Newscenter 25's Amber Joseph with your Hometown News Update.

It was a much anticipated race in the Crossroads but it also had an unexpected result.  Constance Filley Johnson defeated incumbent Steve Tyler in the race for Victoria County District Attorney Tuesday.

A Yoakum man who was accused of multiple sex crimes pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child this week.

45 year old Shane Neil Cliffe was charged with 65 sex crimes in 2016. Cliffe was on trial last July on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. That trial ended in a mistrial.

Tuesday morning, Cliffe pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and received 10 years probation as part of a plea deal.

Cliffe will not serve prison time unless he violates his probation or sex offender laws. Cliffe will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Cliffe will not have access to the internet and if he violates probation, he could face 99 years to life in prison.
