UHV Softball Conference Opener Preview & West Softball Tourney Highlights

The next game for UHV softball is its conference opener. The Jaguars went 2-1 in their season-opening rain-shortened Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth last Friday. The Two Jaguars I talked two were pleased with their play there, and they are also happy that they are picked to win the Red River Conference this season. Said pitcher Peyton Branham, "Oh I'm really confident in our team going into the conference opening. We get along on and off the field. It'll be a good mesh, it'll be really good." Said third baseman Michelle Revels, "They made the right decision. We're looking forward to it. We're looking forward to dominating every team we play and we just can't wait to start this new journey." UHV softball opens Red River Conference play with a doubleheader Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Huston-Tillotson. 
West softball, starting play in its Warrior Weekend tournament Thursday. After the Warriors beat Wharton, 10-4, with eight strikeouts from Clara Zappe and two RBI's from Sydney Chavez West lost to Orange Grove,  9-6. Bianca Balderaz with three RBI's for West, and the Warriors' Aaliyah Vela with three strikeouts. Brooklyn Parsons with a walkoff double in the nightcap as West beats Boling, 9-7. Four strikeouts for Cheyenne Migl. West next plays in its Warriors Weekend tournament Saturday morning at 8:00.
