UHV announces fall semester graduates

The University of Houston-Victoria has awarded 444 degrees to undergraduate and graduate students who completed their coursework during the fall semester.

Undergraduate candidates with honors wore gold braids over their robes during a Dec. 15 graduation ceremony at Faith Family Church in Victoria.

Students graduating cum laude, with honor, had grade-point averages of 3.5 to 3.67 on a 4.0 scale. Students graduating magna cum laude, with high honor, had GPAs of 3.68 to 3.84, and those graduating summa cum laude, with highest honor, had a GPA of 3.85 or higher.

Graduates by school are listed below with their hometown and any honors received.

    • Breaking: Two bodies found inside home on Jecker St

      Victoria Police Department responded to calls of shots fired at the 2100 block of Jecker St late Friday night.

    • 18-Wheeler Fire in Victoria County

      Victoria County- An 18-Wheeler caught fire at the intersection of Highway 87 and 59. The truck was travelling North bound when authorities believe the axle caught on fire and spread from the wheels to the cabin. The Victoria Fire Department is on the scene and wrapping up their investigation. As of 11:40 p.m. the fire is out and no injuries were reported.

    • VPD works on building positive relationships with the community

      On October 2nd VPD will continue with the 35th annual National Night Out. Today they held the kick off party at the Victoria Community Center. Newscenter 25's David Gibson attended the event and tells all about it. Officer John Turner says most Police interactions with the community tend to be negative.. However... National night out lets the community see officers from a different angle... "National night out promotes a more positive interaction with Police and the community...

      Every year nationwide, Americans celebrate Prisoners of War and Missing In Action  Soldiers. The VFW Post 4146 held a presentation at Cade Middle School this morning. Newscenter 25's David Gibson attened the event and tells us all about it. Veterans from VFW Post 4146 came to Cade Middle School to teach students about P.O.W./M.I.A day. "Its basically established to show awareness to all the United States and others on P.O.W/M.I.A soldiers.

The truck was travelling North bound when authorities believe the axle caught on fire and spread from the wheels to the cabin. The Victoria Fire Department is on the scene and wrapping up their investigation. As of 11:40 p.m. the fire is out and no injuries were reported.

    Victoria County- An 18-Wheeler caught fire at the intersection of Highway 87 and 59.     A death row inmate who was part of the notorious "Texas 7" gang of escaped prisoners has received an execution date for late this summer. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice says they've received documents setting 45-year-old Joseph Garcia for lethal injection August 30th. On Christmas Eve 2000, Garcia and six co-defendants fatally shot a 31-year-old police officer while on escape from the Connally Unit. To learn more click here.
