Matagorda man found safe after missing person search

The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to CR 404 Slater Rd.  in Bay City in reference to a missing person on Saturday February 10, 2018. Michael Dee Frick, 66, was reported missing from his home on Slater Rd. at 11:30 am by his wife Deborah. Frick’s wallet and car keys were at the home but Michael was nowhere to be found. Deborah called the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office for help.

Deputies responded to the Frick residence on Slater Rd. and searched the woods behind the residence using a side by side ATV. Deputies called the Matagorda County K-9 unit for assistance in the search. There were negative results in the search for Mr. Frick. Sheriff Skipper Osborne contacted Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch for assistance. Texas EquuSearch mobilized at the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office and along with volunteers went and searched the area on Slater Rd on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office deployed its Drone and flew the area to assist in the search for Mr. Frick with negative results. Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office found on February 10, 2018 around 8:15am, a subject picked up Mr. Frick on Hwy 60 just north of Bay City and dropped him off in the area of Milam Donuts on Hwy 60 in Wharton, Texas. Matagorda Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Matt Mireles went to Wharton to try and locate Mr. Frick through video footage from several Businesses. EquuSearch ended the active search of the woods and surrounding area around the Frick residence.

Update: 02/12/2018

On Monday 02/12/2018, a family in El Campo, Texas called Mr. Frick’s family members after seeing a post on Facebook and advised them that they had picked up Mr. Frick in Wharton and gave him a place to stay at their residence in El Campo. Mr. Frick’s family notified the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office who in turn notified El Campo Police Department of this information. The El Campo Police Department located Mr. Frick at a residence in the Height’s street area and Mr. Frick’s family is making arraignments to go to El Campo and meet up with Mr. Frick.

Sheriff Osborne wants to thank everyone involved in this search for their assistance and we are thankful that Michael Frick was found and is safe.

    • Marq Perez's attorney files an appeal

      Mark Di Carlo filed an appeal on July 27th because they had legal disagreements with the evidence presented during the trial Di Carlo states that out of thousands of pages of Perez's facebook messages only a few were cherry picked for evidence during the trial. Di Carlo also says out of Perez's 3 hour long video interrogation, prosecutors only used 10 minutes worth and he believes this gave an untrue characterization of Perez to the jury.
