Here are Friday night's area high school basketball scores and highlights. West boys basketball, closing its home district action Friday night.
I was at West for the Warrior boys and Foster. and look who was back in the West gym. West boys basketball coach Pat Erskine, making his first appearance at a game there since the Warriors beat East the Friday before Christmas. The week after that, coach Erskine had a heart procedure done that has kept him out of action. He told me at the game that he is getting stronger every day and hopes to return next season. West down two going into the fourth but they fall to 3-10 in district after a 70-55 loss. 29 points for the Warriors Jordan Fillmore, 10 for Bob Mejia. West boys basketball closes out its season Tuesday night at Calhoun. East boys improve to 2-11 in district with a road win, 42-38 at Fulshear. Elijah Hooker led the Titans with 15 points, 10 for Jaren Wilson. Faith Academy boys clinch a playoff spot for the the first time in four years with a 59-50 win over First Baptist. Keigan Rendon led the 15 points. Double double for the Cougars Tanner Moore with 12 points, 17 rebounds. Edna boys beat Industrial, 35-29, to stay tied for the district lead.
Edna girls win their third place playoff over Boling and will face Yoakum in Cuero Monday night in Bi-District.

    • Refugio Drubs Yorktown, Advances to Area Round

      The Bobcats' offense looks like it can't be stopped. Refugio defeated Yorktown 75-0 in Karnes City on Friday, marking the sixth straight week the team has eclipsed the 55-point threshold.     • Industrial takes on Rice Consolidated

      Industrial football, looking to make as long a run as its volleyball team did in the playoffs. Our David Gibson, at Ricebird stadium for the Cobras and Rice Consolidated, 3a division one bi-district. First play of the game Rice's Devin Sims takes the hand off and runs for a big gain before being tackled.  On the same drive the Raiders running back takes the ball and barrels his way all the way down to the 2 yard line.

    • Yoakum Pulls Away Late, Beats Columbus

      It wasn't pretty at times, but the Bulldogs got it done.  Yoakum beat Columbus, 30-13, in Hallettsville on Friday, pulling away in the fourth quarter to punch their ticket to the area round for the second consecutive season.
