H.S. Basketball Scores & Highlights 1-12

Here are Friday night's area high school basketball scores and highlights. East girls basketball, ending the first half of district play Friday night.
I was at East as the Titan girls take on Terry. Imani Wimbish-Gay and Leilani Wimbish-Gay, each with 16 points. Susie Hernandez leads East with 18 points. Titan girls win 82-53 to up their district record to 5-2. East girls basketball starts the second half of district play Tuesday night at Fulshear. 
I was at West as the Warrior boys continue district action against Fulshear. Henry Ybarra scores nine points. Bob Mejia leads the Warriors with 12 as West improves to 2-3 in district with the 40-27 win. West head coach Pat Erskine, still sidelined after a heart procedure. Tuesday night, West boys basketball plays at Foster. West girls basketball improves to 6-1 in district with a 72-13 win at Fulshear, Carrie Lacy leads the Warrior girls with 22 points, 17 for  Ashley Giesalhart. East boys fall to 0-5 in district after a 73-53 loss at Terry. D'ary Patton led the Titans with ten points. 
I was at Faith Academy's new Nextgen Center as the Cougars played hoops against the St. Joe boys. Flyers' Tavion Varela had 16 points, ten for the flyers Blake Houch, as they take the 61-40 win. St. Joe boys basketball, now 12-9 on the season, opens district play next Friday night at Corpus IWA. 
Our Alan Espejel, at the St. Joe Dome for hoops between the Lady Flyers and Cuero. STJ's Maegan Marshall with 16 points, but St. Joe drops to 12-8 with a 37-31 loss. Like their boys, St. Joe girls basketball opens district hoops action next Friday night at Corpus IWA.

    • Ratley Makes NFL Debut for Browns

      A former Yoakum football standout made his NFL debut on Sunday.  Damion Ratley, a former Yoakum Bulldog and sixth round draft pick out of Texas A&M, made his debut with the Browns on Sunday and recorded a team-high 82 yards in the losing effort.     • UHV Soccer Sweeps Jarvis Christian

      Elizabeth Reyes (FR/Edinburg, TX) and Lauren Leslie (SR/Falkirk, Scotland) each scored a pair of goals Saturday to help lift the University of Houston-Victoria women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs in the Red River Athletic Conference match at The Cage.
