VPD holding rape defense class next month

Posted: Updated:

The Victoria Police Department will hold its rape aggression defense class next month to teach Victoria women proper defense techniques.

Victoria PD is hoping to educate Victoria women on rape defense to empower these women in the event they find themselves in a bad situation.
The class is a nine hour course, spread across three days, and is free to anyone interested in learning self-defense. Officer John Turner says being prepared can make all the difference.

"Well it's not just, not simply Victoria women, but all women should be prepared to take care of themselves should the need arise. Hopefully, it never will. But, like I said, the more educated you are, the better off you are. It's preparedness, not paranoia."

The rape aggression defense class will take place February 26th to the 28th. For more details you can call 361-485-3808.

The Victoria Police Department rape aggression defense class is a certified rape instruction class approved by Rape Aggression Defense systems. According the the R.A.D. website, the network is "the largest network of its kind with over 11,000 Instructors receiving training in our systems to date. These Instructors teach at various colleges, universities, and municipal law enforcement agencies as well as various other community organizations internationally. R.A.D. has trained more than 900,000 women since the program began in 1989.

R.A.D. is the only existing program with a free lifetime return and practice policy, honored worldwide.

R.A.D. has developed specialized simulation techniques and equipment for use by certified R.A.D. Instructors.

R.A.D. is the only self-defense program ever endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), National Academy of Defense Education, the National Self- Defense Institute (NSDI) and Redman Training Gear."

Anyone interested in getting more advanced and detailed rape defense training can visit the R.A.D. website at this link for more information on costs and locations.
