East Punter Gets Super Honor

Posted: Updated:

For the third straight year, an East football player has made the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine Subway Super Team. This time it's Jack Traugott, getting a Fans Choice award. Those go to the top vote-getters not named to  offense or defense, regardless of position. Traugott had a 40.1 punt yard average with a long of 67 yards, and the senior accounted for 25 points in placements. Traugott was a second team All-State pick by the Texas AP Sports Editors.
Cuero All-America wide receiver Jordan Whittington visited the Future 50 camp in orlando last week, and he was considered the star of the day. Whittington tells the Austin American-Statesman he is definitely attending the Texas Longhorns' junior day. No date has been set for that. My conversation with Jordan Whittington will be our Athlete Of The Week story Thursday night at 6:00.  A former VISD football coach has a new college football job. Jeff Lebby has been named offensive coordinator at Central Florida. Lebby was a football assistant with the Memorial Vipers in 2007. Lebby then coached under his father-in-law, Art Briles, at Baylor. Lebby was on the coaching staff there when Briles was fired in the wake of the school's sexual assault scandal. Lebby spent the last season coaching at Southeastern University, an NAIA school.
