Riverside Stadium Turf Update 1/10

Posted: Updated:

More progress to show you on the Riverside Stadium turf replacement. Workers from Hellas Construction in Austin continue to work on the new field turf as they have for almost a week. The foul lines and coaches boxes have been put in, the pitcher's mound is done, home plate is almost done. Still to be put in the turf, sand and the ground up Nike pellets. Workers there told me the whole field should be done by Friday or Saturday. While that is going on, I saw workers from the City of Victoria replacing the ceiling fans that are over the grandstand. They were ruined by Harvey. Those workers told me they hope to have those fans fully replaced by Friday. The turf was ruined by Guadalupe River flooding caused by Harvey.  Despite a report the team had reached an agreement with the Pirates on a trade for righthander Gerrit Cole, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow tells the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday that no deal was imminent.
Luhnow says while the teams have engaged in trade discussions and a deal may happen eventually, No deal has been struck. Reportedly the Astros and yankees are trying to make a deal to get Cole, the former number one overall draft pick who was an All-Star in 2015  Cole's contract is under team control for this season and next season. The Astros Winter Caravan will be in Rockport Thursday.
